2013 News 01

Our heartfelt thanks to the generous individuals who have sponsored a child, donated an instrument, written a letter of appreciation and attended our concerts – the value of your contribution is immeasurable. To the Clifton PA: what wonderful continued support! To Stationery 4 U, thank you for photocopying. To AAM for sponsoring our website and to Kings and The Lighthouse for the venue and teas – can’t do without!

A message from Helen Mennie, Music Voyage founder

2012 was a fabulous journey! After a busy year-end period crammed with the preparation for and excitement of many live concerts we welcomed the holidays to recharge our batteries and restore our energies. This year is off to another busy start with the introduction of new instruments as we move ever closer to our vision of a performing orchestra. We are proud to announce that most of the students who enrolled in our music school last year have enrolled again this year. The few students who have left us have departed due to relocation, not because of lack of enthusiasm. Still, our numbers continue to grow and our reputation is spreading! We have been invited to perform at the Sustainable Living and Indigenous Plant Fair, on 26 April at the Botanical Gardens in Pietermaritzburg. Not much time and lots of practising to be done!

Driven to play

It’s great to see such drive and passion in youngsters, and five local boys were so determined to own guitars that we organised a collection drive at the Nottingham Road Spar, who are always wonderful supporters of Music Voyage. We raffled a hamper and a R200 voucher – thank you as always, Candice and the Spar team! Congratulations to our winners Barry Freese and Luyanda Nene.

Music Voyage Advisory Board

Our newly established Advisory Board is comprised of community leaders Nonhlanhla Mlotshwa, Dumisane Mnculwane, and Sipho Zuma. These individuals have kindly agreed to be a part of our team, offering invaluable guidance and much needed communication with families and communities.

Our wish list

  • A bus or Toyota Avanza – any contacts? Anyone…….??
  • Lockable cupboards for instrument storage
  • Entry fees for ABRSM exams (R400 an entry)
